Airline Baggage Requirements
Members flying to the BUSMVA Reunion should be aware of airline baggage regulations BEFORE arriving at the airport. Below are the general allowances by the major airlines. Any questions should be addressed to the airline you will be using.
At present, carryon baggage allowances are restricted to one bag by most airlines.
Checked baggage allowances vary from airline to airline. For instance, United Airlines and Delta allow two 50 pound bags per person. American Airlines only allows one free checked bag. Overweight bags are charged substantial fees. In addition to one carry-on bag, customers may bring one personal item, which includes a purse, briefcase, laptop or diaper bag.
In addition, most airlines allow passengers to carry on medical assist items such as CPAP machines. Those items generally don't count against your carry-on allowance. (That may not be the case now - check with your airline)
Delta Airlines has some direct flights from New York to Berlin. However, be certain you have ample time between connecting flights arriving at New York to get between terminals and gates, toilet stops, etc. One connection from Atlanta only allows 57 minutes.
United and Lufthansa flights tend to provide more in the way of food and in-flight entertainment than Delta.

Passports: Be sure your passport's expiration date is MORE than six months AFTER you will return to the U.S. Also, carry an additional photo ID. It is required at some security checkpoints.
